Etsy Front Page

Ok so maybe I didn't ACTUALLY appear on the front page of Etsy, but from my point of view this was pretty cool.

Quick background on Etsy, for those of you who are completely unaware of what Etsy is, it is as their slogan says "The place to Sell and Buy all things handmade". This website hosts hundreds of thousands of shops for creative individuals. It provides a selling venue that allows crafters to publish their handmade pieces online. On Etsy you can custom request anything from hand made stationary to um...beef jerky underwear...(still not sure what that one was all about). You can find artists from every category imaginable, you can find artists who paint, sculpt, draw to artists who create clothing, jewelry, furniture and more.

So what is my giddiness about? Well Etsy has grown HUGE since 2005, and continues to grow. This growth has caused amazing features on Etsy to not function properly. So when you list you run a chance that your products never make it on the front of the search categories.

Etsy implemented a new feature which would allow your items to display beneath the featured showcase (the front page with all the different buyer's stuff in it, also called a treasury) so your items would gain exposure right there in the front page. Well if you ever peruse the Etsy forums, you would know this has been a big issue lately because seller's don't see their items, if Seller's don't see their items chances are their customers wont see them either.

I listed some stuff today, and it made it to the front page it really did! so here is a screen capture of it. I am a geek, I get excited about the strangest stuff and I am very excited about this one so here it is...

Introducing My Jewelry Line

Up to now what you know about me is that I am obsessed with makeup. However my obsessions pan out beyond the world of mascara and eyeshadow. I also have a love and obsession for jewelry, the sparkly, the trendy, the fashion forward, the fine, all of it!

With my love for jewelry and my ever growing jewelry collection and my ever shrinking bank account I quickly learned to make my own. On a trip to Mexico in 2004 my oldest sister took jewelry making classes, I never attended these classes but I learned by watching her. She quickly abandoned her new hobby and I took it up. At first it was just a hobby, another way of letting my creative self shine through in the form of earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

I was 19 and working in a call center, I found myself with absolutely no money at all for the first time. Being in debt with my parents, siblings and friends already I didn't dare ask anyone for money. Instead I reached into my sister jewelry making supplies and stayed up late one night making as many pairs of earrings as I could.

I took them to work the next day and nervously showed them to my co-workers, to my surprise they were quite impressed and I sold out! With money to buy gas I was satisfied. I realized however that I had more than a hobby at hand, that my hobby could pay off. I proceeded to make more and more jewelry and eventually earned myself the title jewelry artist.

Five years later I still love creating jewelry, I opened a shop on Etsy in June of 2007 and began shipping my jewelry worldwide! Misfortune happened when I unfairly lost my job at a different company over a concern I brought up with the "Human Resources Department". Fortunately, however I had a steady customer base both on and offline. I did many custom orders that came with big paychecks.

In September of 2008 I went back to a behind the desk job. Although I loved making jewelry the new job took a toll on my personal life making it difficult to concentrate on anything but the job. I eventually took a hiatus from my jewelry making and for 8 months my customers wondered what had happened to my jewelry line.

Misfortune happened again when I was laid off in May of 2009 due to the recession. With free time again I decided to open shop on Etsy again. I let my offline customers know I was back and sales quickly started happening in person again. On Etsy the story has been a bit different. The jewelry category is more saturated than ever making it nearly impossible to stay above the rest. However I know I have a loyal customer base on Etsy also that will be back to purchase come the holiday season.

So it is without further Ado that I introduce the readers of my blog to my handcrafted jewelry line. To purchase please click here.
